Jim Walker today announced his retirement from WesTrac.
Mr Walker joined the company in 1989 and commenced his career as an apprentice with Hastings Deering 43 years ago. Mr Walker has been the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of WesTrac for the past 13 years leading the company’s rapid development in industrial services in Australia and China.
Commenting, Mr Walker said: “My time at WesTrac and the Caterpillar dealership organisation has given me many opportunities I would never have thought possible when I commenced my apprenticeship. Over the years I have met so many people and made many friends through the Caterpillar dealership organisation and our customers. They will remain friends forever. I thank my wife Lesley and my family for the support they have given to me over many years. I also wish to thank Kerry Stokes, the company and everyone with whom I have been involved over the years for their support and wish everyone and the company all the best for the future.”
Commenting Mr Kerry Stokes AC, Executive Chairman of Seven Group Holdings, said: “Jim is truly a legend of the industry. We honour his work and commitment to the company, our people and our customers over so many decades. He is WesTrac. I have known Jim for 25 years and he is a friend and a colleague. Jim’s contribution to WesTrac and Seven Group Holdings has been extraordinary. People like Jim don’t come around all that often in life but I’m so pleased that he’ll still be working with us in a new role post retirement building on our partnerships with Caterpillar and our key customers.”
Commenting Mr Don Voelte AO, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Seven Group Holdings, said: “We have come to understand Jim’s decision to take a step back from his role as CEO of WesTrac. We will miss him. On behalf of all of us at Seven Group Holdings and WesTrac, we acknowledge Jim’s extraordinary career and in particular his keen active interest and focus on our people and our customers. We have taken him up on his offer of a generous transition period as we commence our succession process for the role of CEO of WesTrac.”
