COGNOS NAMES TONY SIRIANNI SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, WORLDWIDE FIELD OPERATIONS

--Veteran sales professional given global mandate --

OTTAWA, ON and BURLINGTON, MA, January 27, 2003 -- Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and performance management, today announced that Tony Sirianni has been promoted to senior vice president, Worldwide Field Operations. Formerly senior vice president of North American Field Operations, Sirianni will be responsible for spearheading aggressive global sales initiatives, ensuring maximum customer success, and driving continued marketplace momentum.

With more than two decades of software sales experience, Sirianni was responsible for managing Cognos’ North American direct and indirect software sales, as well as services, marketing, finance, and administration. As senior vice president, Worldwide Field Operations, he will lead the Cognos team of experienced sales leaders in all geographies, as well as the company’s highly successful worldwide services organization.
